The Fall 2014 version of CEE463 was featured on the Princeton University homepage over the summer of 2015. The story can be found here, and a brief video capturing the spirit of the course can be found here. This course is a hybrid studio-lecture course for structural engineers. In this course students learn the engineering principles behind structural design as well as the important social and symbolic dimensions. This integrated perspective was developed through detailed analysis of structures, meetings with their engineers, first-hand experiences of the structures in their context from site visits, and the process of building the models for an exhibition. The stimulating experience of model creation challenged students to overcome conceptual problems similar to those encountered in the construction of the structures in actuality.
